During the Oblivion Crisis, an organization of mages and alchemists known as Project Purity sought to rule Tamriel by first enslaving its women through the use of a corrupted Hist tree's sap that, when ingested, provoked an insatiable frenzy that made female victims vulnerable to submission. At the request of two maids who were cursed with the sap's effects, the Champion of Cyrodiil put a stop to Purity's plans and saved the women held captive in the palace of the Argonian warlord Desann.

The descendants of the two maids - the Pinder family - would face persecution by a resurgent Purity as retaliation for their defeat. Over time, this rivalry escalated to the point where in order to survive, the family had to form a clandestine group of mercenaries whose only purpose was to put an end to Purity once and for all.

Diaochan was one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. Although based on a minor historical personage, she is mostly a fictional character. She is best known for her role in the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which romanticises the events in the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. In the novel, she has a romance with the warrior Lü Bu and causes him to betray and kill his foster father, the tyrannical warlord Dong Zhuo. She was praised in tales as woman of unrivaled beauty who did what no other hero in China was able to accomplish: put an end to Dong Zhuo's regime of terror and the eventual end of Lǚ Bu; triggering the events that would lead to the formation of the Three Kingdoms: Cao Wei, Eastern Wu and Shu Han.

Chinese historical records indicate that Lü Bu had a secret affair with one of Dong Zhuo's maids and he constantly feared that Dong Zhuo would find out. This was one of the reasons why he betrayed and assassinated Dong Zhuo in May 192. The maid's name was not recorded in history, however.[1] The name "Diaochan", which literally means "sable cicada", is believed to have been derived from the sable tails and jade decorations in the shape of cicadas which adorned the hats of high-ranking officials in the Eastern Han dynasty.

Earl of Darkness by Alix Rickloff is $1.99! This is the first book in the Heirs of Kilronan Trilogy and is a historical romance with paranormal elements. Readers thought the hero and heroine had a lot of chemistry, but the a lot of the plot events keep them from interacting much.

Maid to Match by Deeane Gist is 99c! Gist is usually highly recommended and we have an older RITA Reader Challenge review for this one, where it earned an A-. This is an inspirational romance that has some religious elements, but many readers loved the opposites attract romance between the hero and heroine.

The Regency Rakes Boxed Set by Wendy Vella is 99c! This is a set that features three historical romances. Several readers say this is a great set, though a couple of them mention that the last romance in the set was the most frustrating to read. But still, 99c is a pretty good price for three historicals!

Why You Should Check This Out: While it is nowhere near the same level of quality as the original series, it has the entertainment factor and lots of romance. The show also improves a lot after season 1.

Thus Chaucer's handling of vowing and foreswearing creates, or at least marks, the resulting genre: comic, mixed religious (tragic and comic), fabliaux, or tragic. Comedies of romance or fantasies result from proper vow-making, -keeping, or -dispensing by and to respected people. Any obstacle to happiness is overcome because the narrators admire and respect most characters. Mixed religious tales, in a serious mode with a threat of tragedy averted, are centered in proper vowing by the heroine, violated by another's breaking faith. The dignity and sympathy felt for these women by the narrator demands some salvific resolution. Marital fabliaux present breaking of marriage vows, serious enough in themselves, but mitigated by the unworthiness of the victim. The tellers in each case themselves reflect a disregard for the marriage vows. Clerical vow-breaking in the fabliaux are considered serious breaches against God, and when summoner and friar break them, both teller and audience disdainfully wish them ill. Their appropriately humorous punishments produce fabliaux because the vow-breakers are not respected. When Chaucer takes unworthy characters seriously, the consequences are disastrous.
